The Global Giving Girls campaign runs from Feb. 28 – March 13, with fund matching on International Women’s Day, March 8th, along with additional funding for the top four projects.
International Women’s Day takes place on March 8 every year, to celebrate and highlight the achievements of women around the world. However, it is also a time to recognize gender inequalities that still exist today, and talk about what we can do to create a fairer, more balanced world. Japan is ranked 110 out of 140 for gender equality, far below most other developed nations.
At TELL, our focus is on mental health, and mental health concerns in women are on the rise, often as a result of sexual violence or abuse in childhood or adulthood. Globally, sexual violence affects one-third of all women, regardless of age, education, or economic status. Our Girls Campaign project aims to reduce the incidence of sexual violence against girls and young women in Japan through (1) innovative school and university-based educational consent workshops aimed at changing attitudes, & (2) trauma education support groups to help survivors thrive.
