16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence November 25 – December 10, 2024
This year TELL is participating in the international campaign 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence (GBV).
While GBV can affect anyone, of any gender, statistics show that it disproportionately impacts women, with one in three women worldwide being subjected to physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. GBV leads to physical and mental consequences for the victims themselves, but also impacts society, affecting families and communities, and has a wider impact, putting strain on health and legal services and causing loss of economic productivity.
We have interviewed Kazuko Ito, (Human Rights Now), Professor Machiko Osawa, Nia Lyte (Koyamada International Foundation), and Yuu Tadokoro (Spring), key voices active in the fields of sexual violence, domestic abuse, consent education, and more. We asked them questions about current systems and practices, required improvements, and also looked to hope, recognising where progress has been made and successes achieved. Finally, we want to offer tangible support and help to those who are, or have been, subjected to violence, so each interviewee shared information about available resources they feel everyone should know about.
You can read the thoughts and ideas of these stakeholders daily on TELL’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and X). Please like and share to help us raise awareness about GBV and show your support for a safer society for everyone.
