MIC Kanagawa provides volunteers that are sent to hospitals under contract and aid in medical interpreting. Contracted hospitals are listed within the MIC Kanagawa site.
Requests for interpreters cannot come directly from patients; interested patients need to ask a social worker at the hospital they plan to visit for the interpreting service. The interpreting cost is free at most hospitals, although some hospitals will charge 1,080 yen for 3 hours.
Interpreters can also be sent to sent to public facilities, such as Kanagawa prefectural high schools, schools for the disabled, child consultation centers, government offices, and immigration offices. The interpreting service for public facilities costs 3,000 yen for 3 hours.
Please call 3 days (excluding holidays) before the date when you will need an interpreter, if possible. Please be aware that the staff member answering may not speak your language.
