Spring Transitions

Spring Transitions

Spring is here, and while everyone is (understandably!) paying more attention to the cherry blossoms, April is also a month of transitions and new beginnings.

Change can be good, bad or both. Even change that was desired can come with significant turmoil, or reality may come short of meeting our expectations. What can make matters worse, is placing too much pressure on yourself or others to feel a certain way about change. When a new chapter begins, however exciting, it is normal to feel apprehensive, overwhelmed or afraid. Some people may also experience an unexpected sense of loss for what we are leaving behind.

It is important to acknowledge these feelings, otherwise you could be left feeling frustrated, wondering “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I just be happy?” If you or your loved ones are going through a transition this spring, here are some tips for getting through this period of change:

Pay attention to the fundamentals. Sleep at the time you usually would, eat well, don’t withdraw from exercise or self-care activities. These will allow your body and mind to deal with the increased demands that change brings.

Anchor yourself. While everything is in flux, stay connected with the people and things that matter to you.

Take the time to listen. If you know someone who is changing jobs, retiring, moving, getting married or experiencing any other kind of transition, do not assume what this change means to them. Give them the space to tell you.

Be extra attentive with children. If your child is changing schools/ teachers or transitioning to the next level of education, pay attention to any signs that they are struggling. Make sure they know what a lifeline or childline is and how to contact one if they need a place to talk about their feelings.

Remember that support is available. Our lifeline is available every day of the year to anyone who needs a space to talk about what is happening in their life. Call us toll-free 0800-300-8355 or chat with us: https://telljp.com/lifeline/
