This year’s WSPD theme is Creating Hope Through Action. Each one of us can play an important role in the prevention of suicide and in creating hope for those who are struggling. You can take up the Step Up Challenge as an individual or team in a school, workplace, or community. You can raise funds, hand out information about warning signs all over the country, and give out the Lifeline number and chat information.
To kick things off, on Saturday, Sept 10th, starting at 16:00 from the Morinomiya entrance of Osakajo Koen, we will walk to Osaka Castle, where we will light a candle in remembrance of those who lost their battle with mental illness. Anyone is welcome to join us and remember someone you have lost.
The Step Up Challenge will run from September 10 (World Suicide Prevention Day) to October 10 (World Mental Health Day), and the Tokyo Tower Climb will be held on Saturday, October the 1st (Corporate participants) and Sunday, October 2nd (School and Community participants).
The Step Up Challenge is an open invitation to people from all over Japan and the world to walk 21,007 steps to honor the 21,007 lives we lost to suicide in 2021. You can do it alone or create a team of up to four people, pick a date between September 10 and October 10, and start walking!
Although it is a walking challenge, it is open to creative interpretation – people have found many beautiful ways to support our cause.

All proceeds will support TELL in helping to address the growing mental health care needs of Japan’s international community by continuing to provide free phone and chat crisis support, professional face-to-face counseling, and community-wide education programs.
