Tell the officer what happened; give all the details you can. Identify yourself, the deceased and the location of the body. If possible, give the deceased’s passport number, current address, alien registration number, permanent address, and next of kin. If next of kin is not in Japan, the Embassy will fulfill that position in addition to arranging for transportation, embalming, shipment to the US.
