TELL Shinnenkai A Celebration of 23 Years

TELL Shinnenkai A Celebration of 23 Years

On Thursday, January 22, the TELL community gathered at the Ohana Room in the Salesforce Tower, Tokyo, for a special Shinnenkai marking the beginning of the year while honoring Vickie Skorji and her 23 years of dedicated service to TELL.

More than 50 people came together for a small private event, reflecting a shared commitment to care, connection, and showing up for others. It was a celebration not only of Vickie, but of all those who have played a role in TELL’s survival and its continued vitality.

The coming together of all parts of the organization in one room – board, staff, supporters, and volunteers – was a powerful reminder of both the impact TELL makes and the coordinated effort it takes to sustain that work. Hosted by TELL and emceed by board member Maurice Rabb, the evening highlighted the steady leadership Vickie brought to the Lifeline through decades of growth and change. Speakers reflected on milestones made possible under her guidance, from expanded service hours and the introduction of chat support to the transition to toll-free access.

In her remarks, Vickie emphasized that the Lifeline has never been about one person, but about collective effort. Over the past 13 years alone, the Lifeline has responded to more than 107,000 contacts, made possible by the dedication of volunteers, staff, and supporters who give their time, care, and trust.

Executive Director Royanne Doi expressed gratitude for Vickie’s leadership across all three of TELL’s pillars and shared that this moment marks a transition rather than an ending. Vickie will continue with TELL as a Senior Advisor, supporting outreach and helping shape a proactive, sustainable future.

Throughout the night, one theme surfaced again and again: TELL’s work has always been rooted in community. As guests reconnected over dinner, music, and cake, the room felt both personal and meaningful. The time together was a reminder of the power of gathering and the possibilities that emerge when community is given space to connect.
