Mine Karagozoglu Brooks (MA.)

Counseling Psychologist and Psychotherapist

Mine has an extended experience of 20 years, within clinical assessment and treatment of moderate to complex mental health issues with diverse client population, at both inpatient and outpatient settings in Canada, Turkey and NHS (National Health System UK) in England. 

She also worked in educational settings teaching courses in Psychology as well as a counselor. 

Mine is a registered Practitioner Psychologist with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in UK and a Chartered Psychologist (C Psychol, Doctorate Level Accreditation) with British Psychological Association (BPS). 

After her Bachelor Degree in Psychology in Turkey, Mine went to Toronto, Canada to pursue her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. She graduated from Adler School of Professional Psychology in 2001; where she also completed Trauma Psychotherapy Training.  

During her studies, she grew interest in treatment of Addictions, given its strong co-morbidity with Trauma. She did her internship placement in Bellwood Health Services in Toronto, Canada; 1st inpatient addiction treatment facility in North America, with a Distinction Award and wrote her thesis on Relapse Prevention Model of Alcoholism.

Mine is also specialized in the treatment of Psychosomatic Disorders, Borderline Organization (also referred as Borderline Personality Disorder) and Interpersonal Relationships.  

Trained in Adlerian Individual Psychology, a psychodynamic theory embedded with cognitive restructuring, Mine followed it with CBT and Psychoanalytical Trainings. She also has an extensive experience on Group Analysis, working with childhood trauma survivors. Her recent work includes Polyvagal Theory, where trauma is greatly stored in the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), inhibiting functioning at different levels.

Mine believes that relationship to oneself and others, is of primary importance regarding mental health and well-being. Hence, increased self-awareness with self-regulation, is crucial in overcoming different issues thus, improving overall quality of life. She also sees “Body” as an important component of therapy, in terms of its capacity to speak for the self, through various somatic tendencies/complaints; thus, the need to understand it for general health.

Fun Fact: At the end of a busy day, Mine chills by baking cakes, watching cartoons with her son and playing with their pet gecko.
