Kirara Miyahara (ATR-BC, LPC)

Art Therapist and Psychotherapist – Child, Adolescent, Adult Individual Therapy

Kirara Miyahara is a Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Her clinical work experience is primarily in Japan and the United States, and she has conducted individual and group therapy sessions in group homes, elementary schools, and hospitals. She has clinical experience working with children as young as 3, to individuals in their 70s.

With a background in anthropology, philosophy, and psychology as well as specialized training and Masters education in art therapy from New York University, Kirara incorporates humanistic and psychodynamic theories into person-centered, trauma-informed therapeutic care. Her approach is informed by past training, education, and evidence-based research, as well as embodied knowledge as a Japanese multilingual queer woman living with invisible disability.Kirara’s sessions prioritize client needs, which often address concerns regarding low internal locus of control, organizing thoughts and emotions and manifesting organized behavior, increasing feelings of self-worth, anxiety management, and processing childhood trauma, subconscious material, and existentialism of the human experience. When not engaged in therapy work, she enjoys printmaking, scuba diving, entomology, and ethnobotany.
