TELL Counseling offers confidential face-to-face and distance counseling psychotherapy services for adult individuals, couples, families, children, and adolescents. We have counseling centers in the Tokyo Metropolitan area and Okinawa. We also provide professional and secure Telehealth Counseling. Our diverse therapist team provides counseling services in multiple languages including English, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Cantonese,  Urdu, Hindi, and Turkish.

Our experienced and compassionate therapists and psychologists are all licensed (in Japan and/or overseas) or are directly supervised by a qualified clinician. Our current areas of expertise include:

Individual Counseling: Our individual counseling services typically begin at 50 minutes per session. Counseling sessions are conducted in a private counseling room or online where your confidentiality is protected.

Couples and/or Family Counseling: Besides individual counseling, TELL therapists also offer a variety of therapeutic approaches to issues and problems existing within couples and families.

Depending on the therapist you are assigned to, the couple and/or family counseling session will be 50 or 75 minutes. You will be meeting with your therapist as a couple/family together or separately depending on your needs and the therapist’s recommendations. Many of our therapists are Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists or have substantial training to work with families/couples, who hold their licenses in Japan and overseas.

For more details please view our therapists’ bios or contact us.

Common therapeutic approaches that our therapists provide include:

A type of psychotherapy (talk therapy) that has a solution-oriented approach and aims to help process patient struggles from both a cognitive and behavioral perspective.

The goal of CBT is to address negative thoughts (cognitive) or behaviors (behavioral) that are causing distress and focus on encouraging practical steps toward solving the problem at hand while tackling the anxiety that it may be causing.

The basis of CBT rests on the idea that thoughts and feelings are what influence behaviors.

A type of group therapy in which what one experiences on the inside is enacted through movement and action with the help of other members of the group.

Elements of psychodrama can be used with individuals, couples, and families as well.

A type of psychotherapy (talk therapy) similar to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that is centered on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

The goal is to reduce emotional distress and relationship struggles.

A type of therapy focused on actively rejecting the denial of internal thoughts and feelings, and recognizing them as reactions to situations one has experienced.

This allows the individual to process such thoughts and feelings, and work to move past these obstacles blocking them from healing.

A type of therapy used for individuals who have experienced a traumatic event or situation. EMDR involves the client following the therapist’s hand movements with their eyes.

During therapy, focus is placed on the elicited emotions and reactions to the traumatic event or situation. The goal of EMDR is to reduce distress associated with the traumatic experience.

A type of therapy that analyzes an individual’s current situation and encourages finding concrete solutions to confront problems and improve quality of life.

A type of therapy in which a client expresses themselves through an artistic / creative medium (typically focused on one medium), which the art therapist analyzes for ways to explore emotions on a deeper level that may be hard to express verbally.
