Rick Kuchler is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensed in California, where he has practiced for over 15 years. He holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and has worked across a range of settings, including private practice, community mental health, and leadership roles overseeing large clinical teams. He now lives in Sendai, Japan, where he continues to serve English-speaking clients via telehealth.
Rick’s clinical approach is integrative, drawing on Humanistic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and attachment-based and psychodynamic frameworks. He has a particular interest in supporting individuals navigating recovery, life transitions, and the unique challenges of expat and cross-cultural living. He brings warmth, humor, and a deep respect for the courage it takes to seek help.
Outside the therapy room, Rick is an avid skier who has developed a deep love for the mountains of Tohoku. During most winter weekends, you can find him and his family enjoying the snow up in the mountains.
