Dr. Borisoff is an American Clinical Psychologist licensed by the State of Maryland.
Melanie completed her Ph.D. at the New School for Social Research in New York City. She trained at Beth Israel Medical Center, Bronx State Psychiatric Center and the James J. Peters Bronx Veterans Affairs Hospital. Most recently, Melanie worked at the Bronx Veterans Affairs Hospital seeing patients as part of a research project funded by the United States Department of Defense to assess effective therapeutic interventions for reducing suicidal behaviors in at risk veterans.
She is trained in Short-Term Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She also has experience using mindfulness techniques with individuals with histories of abuse, anxiety and chronic pain. As a former professional modern dancer and certified yoga instructor she is sensitive to the mind-body relationship and will integrate relevant psychotherapy techniques when clinically indicated.
Melanie specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, relationship problems and adjustment issues. She has also worked extensively treating adults and adolescents with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, substance abuse, self-harm behaviors and suicidal ideation. Melanie utilizes an integrative approach to therapy drawing upon her experience to address the individual needs of her clients.
