FAQs – Counseling (Distance)

I live outside of Tokyo/Yokohama, and I need help right now. What do I do?

In case of emergency, please contact the police or your local emergency line. If you wish to speak to someone for emotional support, please call TELL Lifeline: 03-5774-0992 (English only, everyday, 9 am to 11 pm). TELL Counseling is not equipped to provide emergency services.

I am interested in TELL-e-Therapy (Distance Counseling), how do I get started?

Please contact us by phone (03-4550-1146, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm) or email: clinical.assist@telljp.com.

The clinical coordinator will inform you of the necessary steps before we can offer an appointment. Before the initial counseling appointment, the client is asked to call TELL Counseling for a brief assessment by phone with one of our therapists. The main purpose of the call is to determine whether or not distance counseling would be the best method of therapy for you. For more information about this service, please see Distance Counseling (TELL-e-Therapy).

Do you provide TELL-e-Therapy to couples/families?

No, we only provide this service for adult individuals.

Do you provide this service for children?

In general this service is limited to adult individuals. However, there are some circumstances where we make exceptions. For more information, please contact us (03-4550-1146, Mon – Fri, 10 am to 6 pm).

This service is available only in English. We do not provide this service in Japanese.

How long will it take before I can schedule an appointment?

For TELL-e-Therapy service, clients are required to complete and submit some documents and settle the initial session fee prior to the appointment day. Thus in general, it will take over one week from the initial contact before the first appointment takes place.

How long does one therapy session last?

One session is scheduled at 50 minutes. For the initial session, clients can choose to schedule a 1.5 session (75 minutes). The fee is charged on a pro-rata basis.

How much is the fee?

TELL Counseling operates according to a flexible-fee pricing structure. The regular fee per session (1 session is 50 minutes) is 20,000 yen (plus tax). We also offer a sliding scale fee or counseling services adjusted to your income for those who qualify. We will be happy to discuss your specific fees further with you individually during the initial contact. For more information about fees, please see Counseling Fees & Payment Policies.

Do you take Japanese National Health Insurance?

No, services at TELL Counseling are not covered by Japan National Health Insurance. If you are covered by a private international health insurance, please contact your provider. Most private international health insurance only covers face-to-face counseling/psychotherapy.
